Linear Lift Systems

LLGreater production        download specifications

Easily transported and quickly installed on any existing rod-pumped well, the Global Linear Lift System (LLS) starts paying benefits with every stroke. The LLS real-time adjustable, ultra-long, variable-speed stroke self-adjusts to dynamic fluid levels in each well to optimize well performance. With a greater effective stroke, maximum energy is applied to produce your well, not operate massive surface equipment and counterweights. The software-integrated pump-off controller automatically senses downhole conditions and changing load levels — perfect for low-mobility hydrocarbons.

Lower operating costs

Operating costs are reduced from day one starting with installation. No large cement pad is required, and most LLS systems can be transported to your site in a standard pickup truck. For remote sites, the LLS is air-transportable.

Electrical power is regenerated with each downstroke, reducing net power costs. Long-term benefits include reduced rod fatigue as well as rod and tubing wear, which pays off in reduced interventions and the associated downtime. If downhole maintenance is required, the LLS can be set back quickly and easily to maximize safety and workflow efficiency.

The LLS has a built-in dynamometer readout and is adaptable to any SCADA system for remote surveillance, monitoring and control so you can maintain peak production and pump performance efficiency 24/7.

Perfect for wellsites in built-up or environmentally sensitive areas, the LLS small footprint and profile allow it to blend in with its surroundings.

Features that deliver efficiency and reliability

Elegant design — The single-acting hydraulic ram has no piston seals. The rod seal is a field-replaceable high-performance urethane split-vee packing. A drain port to the reservoir prevents external oil leakage and alerts field crews when the packing requires service. A linear position sensor sealed from the elements produces stroke position feedback to the automatic pump controller. The only hydraulic connection to the ram is a single highpressure flexible hose. The ram and shock-absorbing nylon belt double the polished rod stroke relative to the ram stroke. The ram is easily lowered and the unit set back for workover operations. The LLS works equally well with conventional sucker rods, Corod or fiberglass rods.

The hydraulic pump is an open-loop piston pump/motor that can be stroked over center. As the gravity-driven downstroke begins, the pump becomes a motor, turning the electrical drive into a regenerator that produces clean electrical power, cutting your net power consumption. An integral dynamic software control provides precise speed and counter-balance control regardless of variable loading. All power/pump units are designed for extreme hot and cold weather applications.

Precise control — The motor/pump control center is designed around a microprocessor-based controller. The system acts as its own variable-speed drive. It monitors polished rod load, position and hydraulic pressure, and makes appropriate speed adjustments to optimize well performance. A dynamometer readout and keypad allow field crews to set or change parameters such as stroke length while the unit is running. The system is inherently safe; all critical data are monitored and an automatic shutdown stops the unit before a catastrophic failure can occur, pro tect ing both the well and the pumping system. Remote monitoring by phone, radio or data modem is available.

Versatile and efficient — Global Linear Lift Systems are suitable for all kinds of wells — from conventional oil wells to gas-well dewatering. The automatic parameter optimization feature makes the systems ideal for multiphase producing wells because dynamic loading is continually monitored and adjusted to fit the situation. LLS are particularly effective in heavy oil production where their long, slow stroke accommodates low fluid mobility and changing rod loads.

Heavy oil example — On the upstroke, the controller accelerates the pumping unit to maximum speed without exceeding the polished rod load limit. The downstroke speed is determined by the controller. It is automatically adjusted to maintain a 100- to 200-lb load on the polished rod without separation as fluid viscosity changes. By analyzing the polished rod loading and ram position on each previous stroke, the controller automatically optimizes up- and downstroke speeds. If the well pumps down, the upstroke speed is adjusted to maintain a constant fluid level.
